It’s my third post in the last 20 minutes, but hey, aren’t I compensating for something?
This is just an interesting bit of statistic(s?) on what I’ve been doing online since August of 2005.
In my Archive folder in Thunderbird, there are 857 e-mails. Excluding messages from mailing lists. I’ve received that many e-mails in the last two years. Furthermore, I’ve sent a total 317 e-mails since January 27, 2006. (An interesting thing to note: the sixth message I sent during that time period was an RTFM aimed at Neal.)
Even richer: there are 15MB of IM logs in my ~/.purple, since April 2. I have 1,966 logged chats in my Gmail account. And 98MB (3%) out of like 2900MB used.

I decided to rename by blog for several reasons.
First of all, I don’t typically go by “dandaman32″ anymore. It’s just getting old.
Second of all, “dandaman32’s tech blog” wasn’t even a very descriptive name. I chose “life, code, and idiocy” because most of what I post on here is either (a) directly related to something I saw or heard that got me thinking (life), (b) something related to one of my software projects (code), or (c) criticism of a bad decision from a company or mudslinging at stuff that sucks (idiocy). Typically along the lines of Windows Vista, the shutdown of Fedora Legacy, and a whole lot of other bullcrap from the IT industry.

So today I was in church. I volunteer in 4-year-olds’ Sunday School, just because that’s what my parents always did. (My mom was a nanny in her early years.) There was a little boy, about 4 years old (obviously) who had Down’s Syndrome. His mom was in there one-on-one with him, as could be expected, and the kid went up to our little picture board and immediately recognized not only the picture of himself, but most of his other classmates.
And yet - we’ve spent years developing a supercomputer that can pick faces out of a crowd and recognize them. The world’s top engineers and scientists are working on developing technology that can duplicate something a four-year-old with Down’s Syndrome does with ease! Yet another example of how incredible God’s design is.
